Abstract

Abstract

The aim of this study is to approach the semiotics of green colour in Mahmoud Al-Shalabi's poetry collection, and to interpret the widespread prevalence of this color along with the symbolic connotations it carries and the diverse manifestations that varied according to the poet's emotional state and perspective of life. The study approached the manifestations of green colour in Shalabi's poetry along several paths, the first being green and freedom, the second being green, life and death, and the third being green and dream. Leaning on the colour green appeared sometimes vaguely deviant, which created the need to dive into the profound meanings inherited in the text in order to unlock the color symbolism. Since colour is a semiotic sign of the poet's psychology, his perspective of life and his existence; the study relied on the semiotic reading to reveal the colour green magnifications in Mahmoud Shalabi's poetry.

Keywords: Semiotics, colour, green, freedom, life, death, dream.
